China's industry ministry published a notice on the 25th naming 26 apps and software development kits it says infringe users' rights. The finding came from spot checks by third-party testing laboratories. The named products are to make corrections under the relevant rules, and where the corrections fall short, the ministry says it will organise disposal measures according to law.

The notice cites its authority at length: a joint announcement by the Cyberspace Administration, the industry ministry and the Ministry of Public Security on a 2026 programme of personal-information protection actions, and four instruments beneath it — the Personal Information Protection Law, the Cybersecurity Law, the Telecommunications Regulations, and the rules on protecting the personal information of telecoms and internet users.

What the 26 actually did is not in the body of any account we hold. The Xinhua report's headline names two behaviours — demanding excessive permissions, and windows that cannot be closed — but its text does not repeat them. The list of products is not text at all: Xinhua credits the image to the ministry, IT之家 reproduces it as a picture below the sentence introducing it, and 中国新闻网 does not carry the list.

The series it belongs to is countable, because the ministry numbers its notices. The July round was labelled the fourth of 2026 and the fifty-seventh overall, and named 32 apps and SDKs. The January round named 22, and that one did list the categories: collecting personal information in breach of the rules, forcing automatic renewals, and windows that jump where they should not. The number for this month's round does not appear in the accounts we hold.

Why it is on the board

Third on Weibo's hot-search list when we collected. China is the one country where we hold a single kind of lens — no video, no search — so this is a one-lens entry, and the ranking is where all of it comes from.
